“School Transport Axed, Services Slashed, Council Tax Up – Where Is All RCT’s ‘Saved’ Money Going?”

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council shut down local schools to build a so-called “superschool,” promising savings. Then they axed the school buses to save more money. Waste collections were cut back for the same reason. Year after year, we’re told these cuts are about saving money, yet council tax keeps rising, while the essential public services families rely on are being stripped away. If all these savings are being made, the people of RCT deserve answers: Where is our money going?

A vote to STOP the school transport cuts (18th March 2024)

Labour councillors of the Overview & Scrutiny Committee refused to support Plaid Cymru’s proposal to retain school transport.

Plaid Cymru Councillors Sera Evans and Karen Morgan spoke for the party on behalf of students and parents to STOP the cuts. Some Labour councillors agreed there were serious issues with the cuts to school transport, but when it came to voting, they supported the cuts

1          A few days into walking to Ysgo Bro Taf, and my daughter is full up with a cold, walked into school soaking wet and asked where she could warm up, and they didn’t care, no lockers to help store their soaked-through jacket and bags or put spare clothes to change into. PE kit still wet when getting to her class and wet through all day till she got home and cried and said she can’t do this anymore, instead leaving at 7.50 am for her then provided school bus she now leaves at 7 am. Takes her till 8.15 to walk to school. Leaving at 7 am means she is up at 6 am. Saturday is a day we do things as a family, and today she is exhausted, full of a cold and sleeping all day. We go again on Monday and lose family time from illness and exhaustion, all because they voted to withdraw. Councillors who say they walked last summer in solidarity with us at the outrage of withdrawing. Only now that the names have been released.

2          Massive impact on their mental health with all they’re faced with in today’s world it breaks my heart. I pray to God someone listens, and the council does a U-turn enough is enough.

3          So sad to hear about your daughter, it is disgusting and really makes my blood boil this stupid decision to take away the school transport, hope she gets better soon xx

4          They’ve treated us with utter contempt.

This was shared today… It’s A470 ( not a safe route at present, but who knows with RCT !), you would hope it would have better drainage than other roads, pavements on the so-called safe routes. This is after a weekend of rain.

Keep sharing photos of safe routes which are obstructed by whatever means..

Weather warning is coming into place so any flooding etc please share
