Wales Air Ambulance has successfully completed an 8-month project following funding from the
Welsh Government’s Event Wales Sector Development Fund. Event Wales provide support and
funding for culture, sports and business events in Wales, with a focus on the well-being of its people,
place and the planet.
As part of the Event Wales Sector Development Fund project, Wales Air Ambulance employed an
Events and Partnership Fundraiser, who gained experience, skills and training in the events sector.
The project included supporting and engaging with volunteers and the public, creating both printed
and digital bilingual materials enabling the public to organise their own events, and the organisation
of Charity flagship events. The project supported over 190 events across Wales, supported 64
volunteers and engaged with 31 students. Events included music gigs, coffee mornings, tractor pulls,
auctions, bingo nights, fairs, challenge events and talks.
A bilingual Sustainable Events Policy was created to demonstrate the Charity’s commitment to
health, the environment, Welsh culture, Welsh language, and a more resilient Wales. The policy is
available upon request as a demonstration of best practice in delivering sustainable events.
Also a bilingual Supporter Event Guide and template was created, providing guidance, ideas,
resources and tools for the public to run their own events. A printed version is available from Wales
Air Ambulance, and a digital version is available here www.walesairambulance.com/support-

The 8-month project was completed in March 2025. Wales Air Ambulance Grants and Trusts
Fundraiser, Hannah Mitchell said “We’re pleased to have contributed toward the new Events
strategy for Wales, by delivering a unique project focussed on contributing to a sustainable and
inclusive events sector. We’re extremely grateful to Event Wales for awarding the grant and
supporting us throughout the project.”
Wales Air Ambulance is consultant-led, taking hospital-standard treatments to the patient and if
required, transferring them directly to the most appropriate hospital for their illness or injury. It is
delivered via a unique Third sector and Public Sector partnership. The Wales Air Ambulance Charity
relies on public donations to raise the £11.2 million required every year to keep the helicopters in
the air and rapid response vehicles on the road.
The Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service (EMRTS) supplies highly skilled NHS
consultants and critical care practitioners who work on board the Charity’s vehicles. This advanced
critical care includes the ability to administer anaesthesia, deliver blood transfusions and conduct
minor operations, all at the scene of an incident.
As a pan-Wales service, its dedicated crews, regardless of where they are based, will travel the
length and breadth of the country to deliver emergency lifesaving care.
