The bridge at Goitre-Coed Road in Abercynon , known locally as the Royal Oak Bridge, will be closed from Monday, June 9, to enable the installation of the new bridge deck joint. Updates will be announced once the bridge is opened; the closure is anticipated to last two weeks. We apologise for the inconvenience.
The Goitre-Coed bridge will remain closed with a signposted diversion route alternative in place. Please note, the diversion route is partly located in Merthyr Tydfil County Borough through Quakers Yard.
An alternative route for motorists is via Fairview Terrace, Lock Street, Glancynon Terrace, B4275, A4054, Fiddler’s Elbow Roundabout, Cardiff Road, Rodericks Terrace, and Goitre-Coed Road.
A map showing this route, and the closure area, has been included on the Council’s website, here: https://orlo.uk/VgF6s
There will be no access for vehicles, but access for pedestrians will be maintained. Cyclists are advised to dismount and use the pedestrian access.
Please note, while the bridge provides a crossing above the A4059, there will be no disruption to this major commuter route.
The scheme is being delivered using Public money from taxpayers.
