The NCC (National Caravan Council) has announced its support for the Back British Holidays campaign, joining calls for urgent Government action to address the sharp decline in UK domestic tourism and protect the communities and businesses that rely on it.
The NCC – which represents about 700 members across the UK caravan, motorhome, and holiday/residential home park industry – supports the campaign’s recommendations to boost domestic tourism through better promotion, improved infrastructure, and financial support for UK tourism businesses.
The campaign’s latest report forecasts a 32% fall in domestic holidays, with a potential £23.2 billion loss in visitor spending if no action is taken. The downturn is already hitting rural areas, coastal resorts, and small tourism businesses particularly hard.
The NCC’s Deputy Director General, Alicia Dunne, said: “We’re really pleased to put our support to the Back British Holidays campaign, which aims to highlight and celebrate a vital part of the UK economy – our wonderful domestic tourism sector and especially holiday parks and our leisure vehicle industry.
“Any decline in domestic holidays puts jobs, livelihoods, and businesses at risk. By backing the campaign, we’re calling on Government decision-makers to activelyprotect and promotetheUK holiday sectorand our great British staycation. We are also urging our members to support the campaign too.”
The NCC joins growing voices in backing the campaign’s petition and Government recommendations, calling to:
- Sustain and enhance promotion of domestic tourism
- Boost financial support for tourism businesses
- Collaborate to manage inflation and operational costs
- Empower local government in tourism development
- Ensure reliable travel to UK destinations
- Expand and strengthen UK tourism zones
- Advance green tourism and net-zero preparations
The campaign is being led by Out & About Live and is supported by leading tourism figures, with the aim of safeguarding the future of UK holidays – a sector that currently contributes £31 billion annually and supports 300,000 direct jobs, with an additional three million indirect employments.
