Welsh and English theatre show for babies to tour Wales in May 2025

Theatr Iolo – Wales’ leading children’s theatre company – will for the first time tour Welsh- and English-language performances of their show for babies; Baby, Bird & Bee / Babi, Aderyn a’r Wenynen, in May.

Created by the multi-award-winning team of theatre-makers for babies, Sarah Argent and Kevin Lewis, and directed bySarah, the show is performed by multi-disciplinary artist Krystal S Lowe. It was first performed in English in 2020.

Krystal plays a gardenerplayfully going about their work, sharing the wondrous sights and sounds of the garden with the young audience, joined by a bee and a bird. At the end of the show, babies and grown-ups will be invited to stay and play with some specially chosen objects.

Baby, Bird & Bee is performed in English and Babi, Aderyn a’r Wenynen (translated by Branwen Davies) in Welsh. Both will tour eight venues across Wales, 3-24 May 2025.

Lee Lyford, Artistic Director of Theatr Iolo, said: “There can be no greater thrill than watching babies experience their first live performance; their responses are magical. And there are no better artists to give them their first taste of theatre than Sarah, Kevin and Krystal. For those learning Welsh or hoping to immerse their baby in the language, Babi, Aderyn a’r Wenynen gives a wonderful introduction to Welsh, too.”

Sarah Argent, co-creator and director, said: “It’s such a joy to be revisiting Baby, Bird and Bee in English and developing Babi, Aderyn a’r Wenynen in Welsh – hearing the words of the playful script in both languages. I am so looking forward to the production touring Wales and being experienced by a whole host of babies who weren’t even a twinkle in a parent’s eye when we last performed the show.”

Krystal S Lowe said: “I’m incredibly excited to be working with Theatr Iolo and Sarah Argent on Baby, Bird and Bee again; this brilliant show for babies is such a fun way of introducing the littlest amongst us to the theatre. I’m especially pleased to not only be performing this work in English, but also in Welsh.”
