Theatr Iolo’s show for babies returns to Cardiff and Newport this September.

Following the success of the socially distanced production for babies created in 2020,
Baby, Bird & Bee is now set to return to delight more babies in South Wales with performances at Grange Pavilion, Insole Court and The Riverfront.

Baby, Bird & Bee was created by renowned baby theatre makers, Sarah Argent and Kevin Lewis, who are also the creative team behind Baby Show, the acclaimed and long-running theatre production for the very young. Argent and Lewis are known the world over for making theatre especially for babies.

Created for babies aged 6-18 months, Baby, Bird & Bee is a celebration of the outside world and will be performed in gardens, outdoor spaces and theatres. For babies born during lockdown, this will not only be their first ever experience of live theatre, but also one of the first opportunities to share a space with other babies and families.

"At Theatr Iolo we believe children of all ages should have the opportunity to experience live performance. Lots of babies born during past 18 months will have had limited opportunities to explore the world around them. Baby, Bird & Bee is a wonderful opportunity for parents and babies to enjoy a performance together, safely spend time with other families and to explore the world beyond their home."

Lee Lyford, Artistic Director, Theatr Iolo

Baby, Bird & Bee will be performed by Krystal S. Lowe, who is a Bermuda-born, Wales-based dancer, choreographer, writer, producer, and director. Krystal has an extensive career performing with companies including Ballet Cymru, Citrus Arts circus company and Ransack Dance Company. She is also an associate lecturer at the University of South Wales and Artistic Director of Kokoro Arts Ltd.

Baby, Bird & Bee is an English language show and will consist of a 20–25-minute performance followed by 20 minutes of ‘Stay and Play’ time for the babies and their families. The performance will take place outside at Grange Pavilion and Insole Court, and in the studio theatre at The Riverfront. At all venues, adults and babies will allocated a seating pod upon arrival, with a maximum of two babies and two adults per pod.

Audiences are invited to sit with their baby whilst the new gardener playfully goes about their work, planting and watering in the beautiful garden. Together families will discover the sights and sounds of the space, as little one's delight in the wonders around them. Each family will enjoy the performance from their very own space and at the end of the show there will be a chance for them to stay and dance together to a gentle selection of music.

Baby Bird & Bee will take place from 4 – 19 September 2021. All children attending must be strictly between the ages of 6-18 months. Ticket prices vary for each venue. Please check the individual venues for full details. All members of the group, including babies, must have a ticket. Tickets are on sale now and must be ordered in advance from eventbrite.com for performances at Grange Gardens and Insole Court and from newportlive.co.uk for performances at The Riverfront.
