Corridor care in Welsh emergency departments has become “endemic”, the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM) has said.
A survey carried out this January and February identified all 12 of Wales’ emergency departments as treating patients in corridors and waiting areas.
Commenting, James Evans MS, Welsh Conservative Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care said:
“Corridor care is an unacceptable practice and epitomises Labour’s gross mismanagement of the Welsh NHS across the whole of Wales.
“We cannot have a situation where the Welsh Labour Government says that they do not endorse corridor care, while they effectively facilitate it by failing to improve patient flow by supporting the social care sector.
“I would like to echo the RCEM by calling for immediate action. The Welsh Conservatives want to see the focus shift back towards primary care now, with a long-term workforce plan to support secondary care.”
