Hello All – just dropping this here as Down to Zero won a national award yesterday for community management of their sites. As most of you know, we are working with Cwmbach Community Wetlands and hope we can support the group to win this award for your management of the wetlands next year.
The aim is to make the wetlands safer and more accessible for future and current generations.
We have been looking at ideas from over the valleys – walks, talks and activities are being looked at but one of the other ideas is possibly developing a path/track maintenance group, where people can come, connect, learn skills and volunteer in a safe environment to make pathways more accessible. This works amazingly over at Welcome To Our Woods If you’d be interested in this can you comment on the post please so we can gauge interest Diolch paw Tom Addiscott.

Happy Spring Equinox to us!
We are absolutely delighted to announce that Down to Zero scooped a national Community Management Award Cymru from Social Farms & Gardens – Ffermydd a Gerddi Cymdeithasol! The CLAS Cymru Award celebrates the achievements of volunteers, and the wider community, who have successfully facilitated access to green spaces for community initiatives, along with their dedicated efforts in revitalising both public and private lands within their communities and providing for future generations.
Tom Addiscott, our Project Manager, said: “This Social Farms & Gardens Community Management Award recognises all the hard work of volunteers, and community members, in creating such a fabulous growing space to support wildlife and local food production. Over 7,000 voluntary hours have been logged since April 2024, emphasising the social, emotional and environmental value of our project. Projects such as Down to Zero are essential to increasing community resilience for future generations.”
Down to Zero was showcased, along with 15 other fantastic initiatives across Cymru, in a short film:
Llongyfarchiadau/congratulations to all winners, and a HUGE thank you/diolch yn fawr to our volunteers and everyone else who made this possible. Let’s continue being the change we want to see in the world!
