Responding to claims from NFU that Defra figures show far more farmers will be hit by budget proposal than the Chancellor outlined, James Evans MS, Welsh Conservative Shadow Rural Affairs Minister, said:

“It has been clear from the budget announcement that Labour have lied to our farmers.

“The Labour Government’s own DEFRA figures show that there is a massive discrepancy in the figures that the Chancellor has peddled out in defence of her budget of broken promises.

“We now have two Labour Governments on each side of the M4 working in tandem to destroy farming in Wales and Labour’s plans will not only see a breaking up of family farms but a very real threat to our nation’s food security.”
