Liverpool man jailed after cocaine found in false floor of his van
On Saturday, September 21, 2024, officers stopped a Peugeot van that had been linked to a Swansea organised crime group (OGC). The van had been on a return journey from Liverpool where it had been making multiple trips.
The van was brought to a stop in Ystradgynlais after an operation from the Roads Policing Unit who used specialised tactics to box the van in and bring it to a stop.
The van was searched with an initial negative result. Due to the tenacity of officers, the van was recovered and searched in more detail.
The search revealed a false floor in the back of the van which concealed 10 kilos of cocaine with a street value of approximately £1 million.

The driver of the vehicle Bernard Jones, 67 from Liverpool was arrested and charged with possession with intent to supply a controlled Class A drug (Cocaine)
Jones was sentenced on Monday, November 4, 2024 at Swansea Crown Court to four years and four months in prison.
Sergeant Gareth Roberts said: “This result will have had a significant impact on the OCG in question, it’s hoped that the overarching work underway will identify those involved in the OGC and hopefully see them convicted which will then lead to lengthy sentences for all involved.”
“Illegal drugs have no place in our society, and Jones was part of an organised criminal gang who caused harm and misery in our communities through the supply of drugs.
“I urge anyone who has information about drug dealing in their community to contact the police on 101 or the independent Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
