Ashley Davies, 30, of Forge Street, Pentre, was found guilty of the murder of Conall Evans on October 11 at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court.
A jury found him guilty after a 10-day trial which began on September 30.
Conall Evans, 30, was found seriously injured near the Ysbyty Cwm Rhondda Hospital car park in the early hours of January 1, 2024. He died shortly after from his injury – a single knife wound to his chest.
Senior Investigating Officer, Inspector Dai Butt, said:
“I hope today’s verdict gives Conall’s family some closure so they can now begin the difficult process of moving on from what has been a very traumatic time in their lives.
“This case lays bare the devastating consequences of knife crime which are invariably far reaching. The lives of everybody involved will never be the same again.
“Conall’s life was cut tragically short by the barbaric actions of Ashley Davies, who now faces the prospect of spending a considerable time behind bars.
“I want to thank the community who were left shocked and saddened by this tragic event for their support throughout.”
Sentencing will take place on Friday, October 18.
