Charity awarded £2,000 grant towards hand-held radios

Wales Air Ambulance has been successful in obtaining a highly competitive fund for the second year
running.
The Charity has been awarded £2,000 from the Green Hall Foundation, which will contribute
towards its next order of hand-held radios.
The Wales Air Ambulance crew work daily with other agencies, such as the Coastguard and Fire
Service when responding to incidents. They communicate using a shared ‘airwave’ network with
hand-portable radios.
These radios allow teams to be deployed for missions, attend training or assist in a major incident
that may need extra staff to attend.
A delighted Hannah Mitchell, Wales Air Ambulance’s Grants and Trusts Fundraiser said: “We’re so
grateful to the Green Hall Foundation for their support at a time when there are a huge number of
good causes applying for support for their projects. Our application success is an indicator of how
vital these pieces of equipment are in helping to save lives across Wales every day.”
This is the second year that the Charity has received a grant from the Green Hall Foundation.
Last year Wales Air Ambulance were also awarded £2,000, which was spent on integrated
touchscreen control equipment in two of the Charity’s Rapid Response Vehicles.
This award was vital in providing integrated touchscreen control equipment, due to the fact that the
crews can respond anywhere in Wales. Rapid access to incident location information and the latest
navigation information enables them to efficiently navigate to the incident.
It also included added benefits that if any information changed en route, the system enabled
handsfree updates to be put straight through to their sat-nav, removing the need to stop
and pull over whilst also travelling with blue lights and sirens on.
Wales Air Ambulance is consultant-led, taking hospital-standard treatments to the patient and, if
required, transferring them directly to the most appropriate hospital for their illness or injury. For
the patient, this can mean hours saved when compared to standard care and is proven to greatly
improve survival and early recovery.
It is delivered via a unique Third Sector and Public Sector Partnership. The Emergency Medical
Retrieval and Transfer Service (EMRTS) supplies highly skilled NHS consultants and critical care
practitioners who work on board the Charity’s vehicles.

The Charity needs to raise £11.2 million every year to keep its helicopters in the air and its rapid
response vehicles on the road.
The objective of the Green Hall Foundation is to sustainably improve lives: among the sick, the
elderly, the disabled and the disadvantaged particularly in the UK.
