No progress on road improvements under Labour

The ongoing delays and misguided decisions by both the Welsh Labour Government and Labour-run Rhondda Cynon Taf Council have led to significant increases in traffic through the villages of Llwydcoed and Hirwaun.

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council has previously stated that a road link between the A4059 and the A465 (Aberdare Bypass) is vital for the economy and connectivity of the Upper Cynon Valley. However, this statement seems to reflect the Council’s misplaced priorities, focusing on vanity projects while failing to prioritize essential infrastructure. The continued delays in constructing this crucial link road have led to severe congestion in Llwydcoed, compounded by the increase in traffic coming from the newly dualled Heads of the Valleys road.

The lack of progress in this project is contributing to increased congestion, pollution, and road safety hazards within Llwydcoed. Residents are left asking when this long-promised bypass will be completed, which is supposed to deliver better connectivity and economic benefits for the Upper Cynon Valley, including those in Llwydcoed and Hirwaun.

Additionally, the need for redesigns, further consultancy fees, and other inefficiencies only contribute to the frustration of local residents, who wonder why council tax continues to rise while public services face constant cuts.

The Welsh Government highways problems continue between the 20 MPH fiasco and no major highway infrastructure coupled with the state of the existing highways the Labour Government has not changed in 25 years of devolution.

Responding to a written question response from Labour’s Transport Minister that indicates the safety barrier upgrade and modernisation between Rogiet and Chepstow will not be taking place for several years, Natasha Asghar MS, Welsh Conservative Shadow Transport Minister, said:

The work on this road has been ongoing for over a year now and the Minister’s answer implies that this work will not be completed for several years, if ever.

Labour’s road-building ban continues to frustrate motorists, with a lack of action on much needed road works and no plans for desperately needed new roads, Labour’s policies continue to grind Wales to a halt.
