A huge well done to all the riders in the annual Policy Unity Tour, which took place last weekend to raise funds for the charity Care of Police Survivors (COPS).
Around 50 Welsh riders were among those taking part in the ride from Aberystwyth to Staffordshire on behalf of COPS – which supports the families of police officers and staff who have died while on duty.
The tour concludes at the National Memorial Arboretum, a national site of remembrance, to coincide with a national service of remembrance. The service included reflections from three survivors who described the impact the deaths of their loved ones had had on them.
The Welsh contingent included Daisy Godfrey, daughter of late South Wales Police PC Ian Godfrey, who died in 1999, and our Chief Constable Jeremy Vaughan.
Detective Superintendent Richard Jones, who was among those who took part in the ride, said:
“The Unity Tour was started to help raise the much-needed funds that they need to provide their valuable support to those who most need it.
“It’s also a great way of showing to the survivors, and ourselves, that we will never forget those that have died whilst serving their communities.”
Det Supt Jones added:
“Thank you to all those who have supported the Unity Tour from South Wales, including to those who rode the event – ensuring that as a force we continue to demonstrate to the survivors that we will never forget their loved ones, the colleagues and friends that we have lost.”
