Further Cynon Trail ground investigations at Penywaun

Further Cynon Trail ground investigations at Penywaun

Residents are advised there will be a three-day closure of the Cynon Trail at Penywaun, to carry out a second phase of trial holes that will inform a future landslip remediation scheme.

The shared route will close from Tuesday, May 28, for approximately three days – enabling the investigatory work to be carried out to the rear of Erw Las, where the small landslip previously took place.

The Cynon Trail will need to close to ensure safety – from the Erw Las link to a point at the western end of Gamlyn Isaf Farm (where a fence and closure sign are already in place).

An alternative route for pedestrians will be accessible opposite the riverside footbridge that links the Cynon Trail to Lon Las. This route leads to a residential estate that subsequently directs walkers/cyclists back to the Cynon Trail via the Erw Las link.

Cyclists are advised to dismount and take the pedestrian diversion.

These investigatory works are being delivered using funding secured by the Council from Welsh Government’s Active Travel Fund. The first phase of trial holes were successfully undertaken in March 2024.

Thanks to the community in advance for your cooperation.
