Big Brother satellites? – little appetite for Labour’s council tax-increasing reforms

Commenting following his exchange with Labour’s Finance Cabinet Secretary on the Welsh Government’s Council Tax Reform Bill, Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for Finance and Local Government, Peter Fox MS said:

“People will be rightly shocked that big brother satellites may be set to check the size of your garden as part of Labour’s council tax changes.

“The consultation revealed a preference amongst respondents for a slower and more minimal approach to council tax reforms, because there’s a real worry that these changes will hit the people of Wales in their pockets.

“Crucially, the Welsh Conservatives want to see a removal of any reference to powers being given to Labour ministers to allow councils to ‘disapply or reduce discounts’ and we don’t want to see certain groups, like widows and those living in rural communities hit with higher taxes from the Labour Government.”
