A&E crisis: red alerts declared across six Welsh emergency departments

Commenting on the news that six A&E departments across Wales have been declared as under “extreme pressure” or ‘red alert’,

The hospitals affected include the Royal Glamorgan Hospital in Llantrisant, Prince Charles Hospital in Merthyr Tydfil and the Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend. The health board is urging people to consider alternative treatment options before the emergency department.

Welsh Conservative Shadow Health Minister, Sam Rowlands MS said:

“Our A&E services are in crisis; we need action from the Labour Welsh Government now to alleviate those pressures.

“Long A&E waits in Labour-run Wales, having worsened again against the twelve and four-hour targets, are having a severe knock-on effect with red alerts being declared outside of the winter months.

“The Welsh Conservatives want to see an end to the A&E crisis. Every penny received from the UK Government for health should be spent on our Welsh NHS – not on creating more politicians as Labour is keen to push ahead with.”
