25 Years of Labour running the Welsh NHS and our Emergency Departments are under extreme pressure
Cynon Valley had two large hospitals with 2 A & E departments now we have 1 hospital with just a Minor Injury Unit at Mountain Ash, the unit is open as Dolly Parton says it’s working 9 till 5 just Monday to Friday.
Aberdare and Mountain Ash General Hospitals closed in 2012, and thousands of new houses have been built in Cynon Valley. Under this Labour Government, we now have one part-time Minor Injury Unit at Mountain Ash, but a new telephone number.
A brand new non-emergency healthcare telephone number is now available.
The new 111 service is now available across all of Cwm Taf Morgannwg.
111 is a FREE to call number and instead of having to ring different numbers to contact NHS Direct Wales or GP out-of-hours, dialling 111 will give access to both services.
On this page you will find information on how to receive urgent care if you or a family member is unwell.
NHS Direct Wales and the Out of Hours Service now share one easy-to-remember number.
You can dial 111 if you need:
- Urgent Care
- GP Out of Hours Services
- Advice
- Health Information
111 is the new easy-to-remember shared number for NHS Direct Wales and the GP Out of Hours service that is free to call from mobiles and landlines. It is a 24 hour, 7-days-a-week service, offering guidance and care for all non-emergency urgent medical problems.

For urgent advice 24/7
Call 111 if it is urgent but not life threatening … including if you need urgent medical attention from your GP practice outside their normal opening hours that will not wait until the next working day.
You will be answered by a trained call handler who will take some details. The patient will be offered self-help, directed to a more appropriate service, or offered an appointment at one of our primary care centres. If the GP thinks it is necessary, a home visit may be arranged.
