FMQs: Gething won’t call donations investigation

Responding to the First Minister refusing to commission an independent investigation into his decision to take £200,000 from a controversial company, which has large loans from the Development Bank of Wales,

Andrew RT Davies MS, Leader of the Welsh Conservatives, said:

“The First Minister’s campaign donations are now a major distraction from the work of the Welsh Government.

“There are fair and reasonable concerns about these donation and, without an independent investigation, those concerns will not go away.

“Unless the First Minister commissions that investigation to draw a line under this, his Labour Ministers will continue to fight amongst themselves while our public services suffer.”

Gething’s donations review ‘marking own homework’ says Davies

Responding to Vaughan Gething saying former First Minister Carwyn Jones will chair a review into Welsh Labour campaign finance rules, Andrew RT Davies MS, Leader of the Welsh Conservatives, said:

“A review in which Welsh Labour mark their own homework will not command the confidence of the wider public.

“There are direct questions to be answered about the perception of a conflict of interest over Gething’s donations that relate to the Ministerial Code, and they are not just questions for the Labour Party.

“Gething must now accept that a full, independent investigation is the only way to address the widely held concerns over his campaign finances.”
