Hospitality closures worst in Wales, says new research

Hospitality closures worst in Wales, says new research

Responding to research showing that pubs, bars and restaurants in Wales are closing at a faster rate than in any other part of the UK, Sam Rowlands MS, Shadow Minister for Local Government, said:

“Labour and Plaid Cymru’s business rates hike is having a destructive impact on Welsh businesses.

“Thanks to political decisions made by Labour and Plaid, Wales has the highest business rates in Britain, and these closures are the sad result of those decisions.

“The Welsh Conservatives would make sure our Welsh businesses are properly supported so they can create jobs and thrive.”

Covid inquiry: families robbed of answers

Commenting on the UK COVID inquiry coming to Wales, Andrew RT Davies MS, Leader of the Welsh Conservatives, said:

“The next few weeks will be a reminder to those who lost loved ones of how Labour has robbed them of the answers they deserve.

“While the UK inquiry will doubtless do important work, it cannot give Labour’s decisions the same intricate scrutiny as a Wales-specific inquiry would be able to.

“The Welsh Conservatives believe that people who lost loved ones deserve a Wales-specific inquiry so they can get the answers they deserve, and that Wales deserves.”

Russell George MS, Shadow Minister for Health, added:

“While the Welsh Government has refused to give bereaved families a Wales-specific COVID inquiry, it was the Welsh Conservatives who forced Labour’s hand to set up the Senedd’s COVID committee.

“We continue to believe that Wales would be best served by a full Wales-specific COVID inquiry.”
