Wales needs more doctors, nurses and teachers, not more politicians
Commenting on the Senedd Cymru (Members and Elections) Bill: Stage 1 report, Darren Millar MS, Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for the Constitution said:
“Wales needs more doctors, dentists, nurses and teachers, not more politicians.
“Proposing to increase the size of the Welsh Parliament by 60% while cutting budgets for public services exposes the warped sense of priorities that is typical of Labour and Plaid politicians.
“There is no public mandate for either a bigger Senedd or for the proposed changes to our voting system so none of these proposals should be implemented without the public having their say via a referendum.”
Also commenting, Andrew RT Davies MS, Leader of the Welsh Conservatives said:
“Senedd expansion is a huge distraction for Labour ministers and their coalition partners in Plaid. They should be focusing on the priorities of people in Wales, such as the dire performance of our Welsh NHS, schools and economy, not more politicians.”
