Swansea Road, Merthyr’s new westbound section to Baverstock is open.

The illustration shows this new stretch of Swansea Road.

As part of the work to upgrade the A465 to a dual carriageway a new westbound section of Swansea Road, Merthyr Tydfil has opened.

Swansea Road has been extended to run up to the new roundabout at the top of Merthyr Road (former Baverstock junction).

Initially only one lane of Swansea Road will be open, and this will be for westbound traffic only.

This will allow drivers to use this new section of Swansea Road to head up the hill to the Merthyr Road roundabout which in turn connects with the Crematorium Road roundabout and provides access onto the A465 in both directions.

Two-way travel will not be permitted on the new section of Swansea Road as upcoming work will involve a further change to the road layout.

We will provide you with further updates as the work in this area progresses.

Please note:
The existing Swansea Road that runs from the A470 junction near Trago Mills will remain unchanged as two-way traffic.
