Cover-up as newborn dies after hospital failures
Twenty months after being told that their child had died from being premature, Nelly Webb’s parents have now been told that she “would have likely survived” if the family had received the right care.
Commenting, Welsh Conservative Shadow Health Minister, Russell George MS said:
“I was incredibly sad to hear about this truly tragic case involving a series of avoidable mistakes and missed opportunities, which culminated in the failure of the hospital to provide adequate care and a subsequent cover-up of the reasoning behind Nelly’s death.
“I would urge the Labour Welsh Government to look at a wider maternity services review across Welsh health boards, given the abundance of similar cases the length and breadth of Wales, including the Channon family’s experience with Swansea Bay University Health Board.”
Nelly Webb died on 2 January 2019 at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital, Rhondda Cynon Taf, weighing 2lb 8oz. The Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board has apologised to Nelly’s family.
