Labour-run council-cutting services despite sitting on £270 million in useable reserves

Commenting on the news that the Rhondda Cynon Taff Council are planning on cutting services to fund a budget deficit, whilst sitting on £270 million in useable reserves, Welsh Conservative Shadow Local Government Minister, Sam Rowlands MS said:

“Labour-run RCT Council are sitting on the largest useable reserves in Wales, yet want to cut services which hard-working taxpayers rely on. It is frankly ridiculous.

“As we know, the funding of our Councils in Wales is the responsibility of the Labour Government. For Councils to hold hundreds of millions of pounds in useable reserves, whilst increasing council tax and cutting services, shows that the Labour Government’s Local Government Funding Formula is not fit for purpose. It must be reviewed.”
