Labour’s First Minster cannot provide clarity on WhatsApp message deletion during the pandemic

Labour’s First Minster cannot provide clarity on WhatsApp message deletion during the pandemic

After the news that Nicola Sturgeon’s Scottish Government deleted important WhatsApp messages after the announcement of the Covid Enquiry, Welsh Conservatives Leader, Andrew RT Davies MS, sought clarity from the First Minister on the Labour Government’s handling of similar WhatsApp messages and groups during the pandemic in Wales.

Commenting on his exchange with the First Minister this afternoon, Welsh Conservative Leader, Andrew RT Davies MS said:

Today, Mark Drakeford admitted crucial evidence may well have been deleted and will not be available to the Covid Inquiry.

“To learn the lessons of the pandemic, all messages sent and received by ministers, special advisers and civil servants should have been retained. It’s deeply concerning the First Minister was unable to provide assurances that this is the case.”
