Labour admits failure to tackle rise in homelessness in Wales
Commenting on the Welsh Government’s White Paper on ending homelessness in Wales, Welsh Conservative Shadow Housing Minister, Janet Finch-Saunders MS said:
“The white paper announced today is an admission that Labour has failed to tackle homelessness in Wales.
Record numbers of residents sleeping rough and in temporary accommodation.
“There is a housing crisis in Wales of Labour’s making. They continuously miss their house-building targets, are driving landlords out, and have overseen record numbers of residents sleeping rough and in temporary accommodation.
“With the increase in rough sleepers across Wales, it is disgraceful that the Welsh Government has let it get to this point. Whilst I welcome the readiness to deliver legislative reform, I have little hope that Labour’s white paper will end homelessness. In fact, previous Labour housing legislation, such as the 2014 Housing (Wales) Act has failed to address the structural causes of homelessness, and the Renting Homes (Wales) Act has made the crisis even worse.”
