Teachers to strike over violence in schools

Commenting on the news that teachers will stage strike action at a Gwent comprehensive school this week in a long-running dispute over their safety and “violent and abusive behaviour”, Welsh Conservative Shadow Education Minister, Laura Anne Jones MS said:

Violence in schools

“I have previously raised concerns on violence in schools and Welsh Conservative research had previously discovered that there was at least 5,000 recorded violence cases against school staff from 2018 to 2022.

“The Labour Government need to take immediate action to resolve this dispute and ensure teachers can go to work in a safe environment, I have called for a national helpline for staff and new guidance on collecting data so they can appropriately express their concerns.

“This incidence is indicative of a hidden crisis, one that the Labour Government have ignored since I raised the issue previously. Our teachers deserve better, and our children deserve better. Labour must ensure that our schools should be a safe place to work and study.”
