Cat Southall a singer from Aberdare best known for her work with the Manic Street Preachers, and her powerhouse vocals have released a brand new single Electric Lady The funk-pop single is the fourth single released from her up-and-coming album Popheart which will be ‘ ’
released on October 20th. through Art Head Records Electric Lady is a funk disco track with a s vibe which the singer recreated visually in the 70 accompanying music video with studio sequinned glamour dazzling disco balls brass 54 dancers and sassy backing vocals.
Cat’s versatility as a singer has allowed her to explore many genres from fronting Ginger Wildheart’s power pop band Hey Hello touring nationally and internationally to performing on the legendary Jools Holland Show and Strictly Come Dancing with the Manic Street Preachers whom she joined again as a guest vocalist on their Number album The Ultra – 1 Vivid Lament Most recently Cat as a session singer performed vocal duties for the multi-platinum band Bastille
“Electric Lady’ started with the beat, the rhythm, the feeling. I wanted it to feel like I was in Studio 54,
uninhibited dancing, dressed in Halston lame, surrounded by gleaming glitter balls. I embarked on a
mission to create something that was set in the 70s but felt authentically me. The track is inspired by
the theatrics of P-Funk Janelle Monae and Prince. Boy does that music force you to move. I feel free when I dance, and freedom was one of the essential feelings I wanted to create here.”
Promotion for the album has involved Cat releasing a single a month leading up to the
album launch with the final single dropping at the end of September with the album produced , ,
by Zak Lloyd coming out on October th through Art Head Records 20.
“It was a huge dream of mine to write a mixed genre pop album, a tribute to the pure pop magic that
ruled the airwaves in the 70s and 80s. I’d while away hours singing and dancing along to those larger-than-life artists who consumed my childhood years – Bowie, Queen, Michael + Janet Jackson, Donna
Summer, Madonna. During the pandemic, I had time, so I immersed myself in this music, and took to
the piano to fuse these influences and write the album – ‘Popheart’.
Electric Lady was written by Cat Southall and produced by Zak Lloyd at Zeus Studios and is
available now on Spotify and all music platforms.
