Drivers baffled as councils begin removing 20mph signs before new 20mph speed limit comes in
Commenting on the news that council staff have begun removing 20mph road markings and signs prior to next month’s launch of the new 20mph default speed limit in Wales, Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for Transport, Natasha Asghar MS said:
It is utterly outrageous that the cost of replacing thousands of speed signs in Wales is now believed to be around £26.7m, with many motorists seeing this as a complete waste of taxpayers’ money.
“This comes ahead of Wales’ new 20mph speed limit law coming into force next month, which is already costing Councils over £30m to implement and will cost the Welsh economy a whopping £4.5bn.
“Labour’s socialist experiments and extreme ideology continues to fail the people of Wales. Labour needs to focus on the bread-and-butter issues that they’ve failed on over the last 25 years, not introduce an unpopular 20mph speed limit that will slow the people of Wales down.”
