Trainer of the Year title for CTM surgeon
Cwm Taf Morgannwg trauma and orthopaedic surgeon Mr Anil Singhal has been named Trainer of the Year by trauma and orthopaedic trainees on the Welsh Training Scheme.
As a surgeon at Prince Charles Hospital, Anil and have been actively involved in training registrars for several years, helping them develop skills in trauma surgery.
He said: “My interaction with the trainee registrars is predominantly in the theatre environment where we discuss all aspects of trauma management including specific surgical techniques as well as the underlying principles and philosophy of trauma management. I encourage them to think in terms of problems and challenges and derive solutions rather than think of disease and treatment.
“I believe that training is a two-way process in which enthusiasm to learn and inquisitiveness are the two main elements. I enjoy training almost as much as the trainees themselves. I am very proud to be named Trainer of the Year, and I remain grateful to the department and trainees for their support and appreciation.”
As part of his nomination for the title, Anil’s registrars said:
“Anyone who has worked in Trauma and Orthopaedics in PCH can attest that Mr Anil Singhal deserves to receive this award. He is not only a fantastic surgeon but also incredibly passionate about training. He strives to create a sense of unity and inclusiveness within a team and is regarded highly by members of the department.
“He is approachable to all members of the team, helpful and willing to take on the role of training, often at the expense of his own time. He is exceptional at demonstrating to us how to think about surgery, constantly challenges us to achieve more and gets the best out of us, all in an enjoyable, positive and enthusiastic environment.”
