Senedd debate to celebrate 75 years of our Welsh NHS

To celebrate the 75th birthday of the NHS and to ensure its survival for the next 75 years, the Welsh Conservatives are holding a debate in the Welsh Parliament on Wednesday afternoon. Commenting ahead of the debate, Welsh Conservative Shadow Health Minister, Russell George MS said:

“What better opportunity than on the 75th birthday of the NHS is there to thank and celebrate the hardworking staff and volunteers

“What better opportunity than on the 75th birthday of the NHS is there to thank and celebrate the hardworking staff and volunteers that have supported our health service, particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic I want to see our NHS not only survive but be strengthened for a further 75 years and it must remain always free at the point of need. We can’t ignore the issues within our Welsh NHS.

Both BMA Cymru and the RCN

“Both BMA Cymru and the RCN have issued stark warnings about the state of our health service. Our Labour-run Welsh NHS is sadly an outlier in the UK, with unique challenges. Labour, who have been in control of our health service for over 25 years, have led the only government to have ever cut an NHS budget, not once, but twice – in 2012 and this year.

“You have barely over a 50/50 chance of an ambulance arriving on time or receiving cancer treatment within the target time here in Wales and there are over 30,000 patients still waiting two years for treatment, despite the fact 2-year waits have been virtually eliminated elsewhere in the UK.

We would like to see our Welsh NHS survive for another 75

“As Welsh Conservatives, we would like to see our Welsh NHS survive for another 75 years with the guiding principle of healthcare being free at the point of need still at its heart, but Labour need to address these fundamental issues in Wales or the BMA’s warning of NHS collapse will come true. We want to work with the Minister to deliver a Welsh NHS that the people deserve.”
