Concerns over health risks of wildfire smoke
In the news today it was revealed Swansea University are studying the health risks that come from wildfires, of which there has already been 494 in Wales this year.
Commenting on the news, Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for Climate Change, Janet Finch Saunders MS said:
“I welcome the study being undertaken, and progress being made towards delivering a Wildfire Danger Rating System.
“As soon as there is a reliable method for predicting fires further in advance, the Labour government should pull together a Wildfire Targeting Taskforce which consists of key stakeholders so that a clear plan is established as to how to respond most effectively to high risks.
“By having the best available data, and pulling the right authorities together, there is a real chance that the Labour government could reduce the number of fires, help protect our climate, and safeguard biodiversity.”
