Pentwyn Cynon Footbridge Opening and Trewaun Subway Closing.
On Wednesday 5 April 2023, the new Pentwyn Cynon multi-user bridge will open for use. This is the first structure to open as part of the work to construct a full dual carriageway on Sections 5 and 6 of A465 between Hirwaun and Dowlais.
The bridge crosses over the currently under construction A465 dual carriageway at the Tramway. It has been designed for pedestrians, people with disabilities, cyclists and equestrians. When the bridge opens, both approach ramps are temporary and will be made permanent later in the scheme.
On Tuesday 11 April 2023, the subway at Trewaun will be permanently closed. This will allow the piling to continue to construct the new retaining wall alongside the new A465 at Trewaun.
Once completed, the new bridge linking Brecon Road with Hirwaun Road will include 3-metre-wide multi–user pathways that will allow people to cross over the A465. This will also be the case on the Trewaun West Bridge, which means that when construction is complete there will be three new non-motorised user routes crossing over the A465 at Trewaun/Hirwaun.
In the short term, whilst we progress with the construction of these bridges, we hope that everyone enjoys using the new Pentwyn Cynon Bridge.
