Home-Start Cymru launches Gift Appeal to save Christmas for families living in poverty during the cost-of-living crisis.
Home-Start Cymru has launched a Festive Gift Appeal, with a reminder to the public that every
donation will save Christmas for a family unable to buy presents because of the crisis.
The national Welsh charity has seen the devastating impact of the crisis first hand, as it delivers
hyper-local services to families still dealing with the aftermath of the pandemic.
Bethan Webber, Home-Start Cymru CEO, speaks of the devastating reality for many families in Wales
right now:
“There’s always been a need for our services, but the cost-of-living crisis is pushing families into
absolute poverty. Parents are being forced to choose between heating their homes or buying food.
Sadly, Christmas is a luxury many simply cannot afford this year.
We’re all feeling the effects of the crisis but the reality for some disadvantaged families is
devastating. No child should wake up without a present on Christmas Day. That’s why we are once
again asking the public to support our Festive Gift Appeal.
Their donations will ensure that children we support across Wales will wake up to a gift from
Santa this Christmas!”
Home-Start Cymru will be collecting donations until December 5th, allowing time to organise and
distribute the gifts across 18 local authorities throughout Wales. They are urging people to collect
monetary donations or donate gifts to their Festive Gift Appeal, to ensure that all children from their
supported families experience the joy of opening a present on Christmas Day.
She continued:
“We know that millions of people are worried about how they will cope this winter, but we hope
the spirit of Christmas can endure through these difficult times. We’re asking people to buy just
one extra gift to help us save Christmas for our supported families. Thank you all in advance for
what I am sure will be an amazing response to the Gift Appeal.”
Gifts can be purchased and dropped off at various local drop off stations or gifts can be purchased
via an Amazon Wishlist. Alternatively, vouchers can be sent to Home-Start Cymru’s head office or
monetary donations can be sent via Just Giving. Businesses or organisations looking to support the
