How much longer do Cynon Valley residents have to put up with substandard Public Transport Services?
How is your bus service where you live? Judging by the amount of buses @StagecoachWales have cancelled throughout the Cynon Valley today, it's not surprising people are frustrated. The Welsh Government wants more people to use public transport, but don’t they know the transport system they are responsible for is not fit for its purpose.
As well as the bus services the train service was a fiasco when Arriva took on the franchise on 7 December 2003 for a period of 15 years commuters were fed up of Arriva then in May 2018, the franchise was awarded to KeolisAmey Wales. Did the service improve? On 7 February 2021 the franchise was taken over by the Welsh Government's operator, Transport for Wales Rail, a subsidiary of Transport for Wales, but with Amey Keolis Infrastructure having been involved in delivering some key projects such as the Core Valley Lines.
I believe anyone who has used the Valley Rail Service in the last 12 years knows how bad the services were.
We in Cynon Valley have no direct bus to either Cardiff or Swansea we used to have this service, but it's just more cuts in services for residents in Cynon Valley. Now, because of the lack of drivers many other services are being cut daily our 2 government representatives MS and MP doing? Are they too busy shuffling election flyers around?
The Welsh Government said: “Our aim is to increase the number of people using public transport by encouraging travellers to switch from private car use, thereby reducing congestion, carbon emissions and improving air quality and economic performance. We want to see more people using public transport to get them where they need and want to be, quickly and on time.”
