Letter to the Editor – Get your sunnies on
We could all do with a little sunshine after a tough year. But your readers may not be aware that sunglasses are much more than just a fashion accessory. They’re essential for looking after your eye health.
UVA and UVB rays are invisible rays in sunlight. They are the rays that we protect our skin from with sun cream so that we don't get sunburn. But these rays don’t just affect our skin, they also enter our eyes and it has been shown that high exposure to UVA and UVB are risk factors for developing cataracts.
That’s why wearing sunglasses with the right level of protection can help stop damage from these harmful rays. Be sure to look for sunglasses with a CE mark which shows that they are made to an agreed European standard.
So if you’re enjoying the sunshine, make sure you’ve got your sunglasses on this summer.
