Important Announcement | Tirion Birth Centre at Royal Glamorgan
It is with regret that we must delay the re-opening of Tirion Birth Centre at Royal Glamorgan Hospital which was planned for Monday 5th October, due to a COVID-19 outbreak at the hospital.
We have explored several options and undertaken rigorous risk assessments, but with the safety of pregnant women, newborn babies, and their families at the heart of everything we do, at this time we cannot safely re-open the centre.
We are hugely disappointed and understand the inevitable disappointment and frustration of the many women and families due to use this facility in the coming weeks.
The situation at the hospital site is under constant review and rigorous risk assessments will continue to be undertaken so that we can re-open Tirion when it is safe to do so.
If you were due to have your baby at Tirion, we encourage you to speak to your community midwife who can discuss with you the other available options. These include home birth and or access to our maternity services at the Princess of Wales, Bridgend, and Tair Afon birth centre (co-located in Prince Charles Hospital, Merthyr Tydfil).
We thank you for your patience and understanding at this time and we will continue to provide regular updates via our social media sites.
