‘Welsh Government must get a grip of the situation and increase testing’ – calls AM
The Shadow Minister for Health, Angela Burns AM, has welcomed the increase in the number of tests for healthcare and care home workers – but has warned that more is needed.
She said: “Increasing testing capacity is instrumental and I have been raising this point for many weeks.
“I welcome the increase in COVID-19 tests for our healthcare and care home workers but I fear there are many who are not getting adequately tested.
“The number has only increased by roughly 4,000 this week. Worryingly, less than 10 per cent of our healthcare workers are being tested which, quite frankly, is unacceptable.
“It was clearly a mistake to abandon the 9,000 tests per day target because the decision has led to the Welsh Government taking its eyes off the ball.
“The Welsh Government needs to get a grip of the situation and I believe the introduction of a dedicated team to manage the current testing programme would improve the current testing number.”
