Abacare offers care job interviews by FaceTime during Coronavirus restrictions
AN AWARD-WINNING Welsh homecare provider is offering virtual interviews to people currently out of work due to Coronavirus restrictions to help reduce the need for them to leave their homes unnecessarily (April, 2020).
Abacare is seeking frontline care staff to deliver physical and emotional support to its housebound elderly and vulnerable service users in communities across Wales.
Neil Griffiths, Regional Manager at Abacare, which has offices in Rhondda Cynon Taf and provides care in the surrounding areas, said: “Usually when people apply for a job with us, they are invited into our offices for a face-to-face meeting, so we can get to know them and get a better understanding of them, but due to the current government restrictions, we don’t want people to leave their homes for non-essential reasons and to stay at home until needed.
“Thanks to modern technology we can still get a feel for new candidates and have a chat with them via FaceTime, Skype or similar interactive technologies. It also gives the applicant the chance to see us and find out about what we do. It’s also super quick, we could receive a person’s application and have them on a FaceTime call the same day.
“Time is of the essence at the moment as we need to boost our team numbers urgently. We provide an invaluable service to the most vulnerable in our society, the mostly housebound in Wales, who can’t look after themselves for various reasons, and we anticipate that our services will be put under as much pressure as the NHS as the coronavirus spreads further.
“We’re urging anyone who needs full-time, part-time, flexible paid work, those who have recently been made redundant or laid off, to contact us for an interview. If you are fit and well and want to make a substantial difference to people’s lives at this acute time, we can train you quickly too.
“We will be able to provide our free, full training on a fast-track basis to make sure everyone we take on is ready. This includes a company induction, first aid, information on dementia, health and safety, food safety, infection control, handling medication and moving and handling service users, with the opportunity to achieve Qualification and Credit Framework (QCF) after the initial three months probationary period.
“New recruits are given free uniforms, access to national staff discount scheme for all major brands as well as 28 days paid holiday, paid travel between calls and paid mileage.”
