RCTC Service announcements due to Coronavirus

Due to the ongoing developments with the coronavirus outbreak in Wales and RCT, the Council is announcing that the following locations and services are to close to the public at 6pm today (Wednesday, March 18), for the forseeable future.

This adheres to the advice and guidance issued by the UK Government, and will also free-up valuable staff resources to be directed towards priority services:

  • Gilfach Goch Day Centre
  • Welsh Mining Experience at the Rhondda Heritage Park
  • Dare Valley Country Park (this only applies to the Visitor Centre and Ranger Service and is not presently extended to the café and toilets, however the wider Park areas will not be staffed by the Council)
  • A number of Council libraries, however, facilities at Ferndale, Porth, Llantrisant, Garth Olwg, Mountain Ash and Aberdare will remain open. Pontypridd Library (Llys Cadwyn) will open once the move to the new facility has completed after March 30.

This follows on from yesterday’s announcements, where the Council communicated its decision to close its Theatres (Coliseum and Park and Dare) and to cancel all events scheduled until at least June 2020.

The Council would like to apologise to any residents affected by these closures, and the Council will be in contact with any customers who have purchased tickets for a show at one of our theatres shortly to proceed with the refunding process.

Additionally, those who have purchased a ticket for the Easter Egg-stravaganza event at the Welsh Mining Experience and the Three Peaks Challenge will shortly be receiving an email from the Council regarding how to process their respective refunds.  Further information will also be made available via the Welsh Mining Experience (WME) website and also through the Corporate and WME social media channels very shortly.
