Velindre Cancer Centre celebrates Rosie Roberts’ win at the Macmillan Professionals Excellence Awards
Staff at the Velindre Cancer Centre are celebrating nurse leader Rosie Roberts’ success at the Macmillan Professionals Excellence Awards for her work on Developing Acute Oncology Services in Wales.
Acute Oncology Services (AOS) make sure people with cancer receive the specialist care they need in emergency situations. Although AOS is still a new speciality, services have established quickly and expertly in every acute hospital in Wales.
Effective collaboration is at the heart of this success story and Rosie Roberts ' contribution has been invaluable to the process. Based at Velindre Cancer Centre, Rosie is an inspirational nursing leader who has worked tirelessly to promote, implement and develop acute oncological services. Rosie aim is to improve the experience of cancer patients and raise awareness of their specific requirements in an acute care setting.
Rosie has worked tirelessly to champion, implement and develop AOS driven by her commitment to improve the patient experience and her passion for educating staff.
Rosie Roberts said:
‘I’m delighted to have won this award. It recognises the huge contribution acute oncology services make to cancer patients’ experience by helping acute teams to make decisions about whether to admit patients and potentially reducing the stay of patients. I support these new AOS teams by providing them with the education, skills and resources to help them flourish. This work has been done across my two roles for Velindre University NHS Trust and the Wales Cancer Network. I’m fortunate to have gained lots of skills and expertise during my career, and I feel passionately that it’s the duty of people with specialist knowledge to share it.’
