Producer turned comedy writer’s debut play confronting society’s dismissal of women over 40 tours Wales this Autumn

Inspired by her own sense of disappearance after a battle with cancer abruptly ended her successful media career, Swansea born TV producer and director Ailsa Jenkins felt determined to tell a story that all too many women will relate to in The Invisible Woman.

A one-woman dark comedy about ageing ungracefully and searching for significance, this brilliantly funny and poignant new play invites audiences to follow Mari (Nicola Reynolds; Ideal, Human Traffic) on her hilarious crusade to right the wrongs of her community. Undeterred by menopausal back fat, she sets out on a campaign of ‘invisible justice’; determined to make herself seen by those who matter most.

By shining a spotlight on society and the media’s often unspoken dismissal of women as they reach middle age, this humorous monologue gives an important voice to this all too familiar norm. Addressing relatable topics from family, mental health and dieting, The Invisible Woman celebrates female empowerment and challenges audiences to rethink their own potential.

A series of post-show Q&A discussions as well as supportive new writing workshops delivered by Ailsa Jenkins and her all-female production team will feature across the tour. Opening Oct 17th as the launch of Wales Millennium Centre’s Performances for the Curious the tour visits Monmouthshire, Ammanford, Llanelli, Pontypridd, Aberystwyth, Caernarfon, Tywyn, Narbeth and Newport.

This project is funded by the Arts Council of Wales.

Running time is approximately 1 hour and due to strong language, is advised as suitable for audiences aged 16+.
