Statement from the Council Leader, Councillor Andrew Morgan about Cwm Taf Morgannwg Health Board:

“In light of the damning report published, and speaking with the Health Minister today, I fully support the Welsh Government’s urgent action to intervene in the Cwm Taf Morgannwg Health Board, and it is now an immediate priority for all of the recommendations to be fully implemented as soon as possible.

“I have previously expressed concerns to the Health Board over a range of operational issues, including maternity and other services, and today’s findings highlight a number of unacceptable failings that have culminated in this.  Since the changes were made in March, there have still been several serious reports of extreme pressures on frontline staff leading to services not being delivered as residents should expect, and I will be seeking further assurances from the Health Board to ensure that plans are in place to rectify this.

“It is imperative that there is now an open and transparent process that listens to patient experiences and considers the views of the frontline staff, who are being stretched to the limits in resolving these issues to improve healthcare arrangements for residents of Rhondda Cynon Taf and the wider Cwm Taf Morgannwg area.

“It should be clear that the findings in today’s report in no way reflect the invaluable work of the frontline health staff who work under tremendous pressure; however, the Health Board’s senior management need to fully reflect on these findings and consider what further internal actions are needed.”
