Young people are Highway Code experts in road safety quiz
There were smiles all around as young people from across Rhondda Cynon Taf proved themselves to be experts in the Highway Code, by excelling during the Council’s annual road safety quiz.
Each year the Council’s Road Safety Team hosts the event with primary schools from across the County Borough – who take part in a fun, friendly and informative event that ensures our young people know how to stay safe as pedestrians, cyclists and passengers. The event is held in conjunction with the Council’s partners from South Wales Police and South Wales Fire and Rescue Service.
In total, 30 primary schools took part in the quiz’s preliminary round – and the six top-scoring schools were invited to the final of the competition, held in the Mayor’s Chamber at the Municipal Buildings, Pontypridd, on Friday, April 5.
The 2019 finalists were Bodringallt Primary, Dolau Primary, Caradog Primary, Parc Primary, Penyrenglyn Primary and Ton Pentre Juniors.

The final round saw Dolau Primary crowned as worthy winners, closely followed by Ton Pentre Juniors and Caradog Primary in joint second. The winning school will now go on to represent Rhondda Cynon Taf at the South Wales Police Road Safety Final, coming up against pupils from neighbouring County Boroughs for the chance to win the South Wales Police Shield.
