Charity’s Wish to Screen Your Teens!
Cardiovascular disease is said to account for a third of all deaths in Wales. Welsh Hearts, an award- winning charity based in Wales, is holding part-funded heart screening sessions at Cardiff Gate Business Park on Saturday 13th of October 2018 from 9.00 am – 4pm. Welsh Hearts aims to raise awareness of undiagnosed heart conditions, by providing easily accessible and affordable screening to communities in Wales. The heart-screening event is open to teens in Wales from 10 – 18 years and this screening session is in memory of Ashlee McFarland, who tragically passed away at the age of 22 from an undiagnosed heart condition.
Sharon Owen, Charity Director said, “it is our mission to help protect and promote the heart health of people here in Wales. Many people still associate heart diseases with heart attacks with older people; this is sadly not the case. At least one young person a day, dies suddenly every year from an undiagnosed heart condition – that’s hundreds too many each year. With a simple ECG (electrocardiogram), we can identify most cardiac abnormalities, minimise the element of chance, and save hundreds of lives.”
Screening appointments can be booked on our website http://www.welshhearts.org/heart- screening-wales. Attendees will need to fill out a simple application form prior to being seen by the cardiologists on the day. You will receive a simple and painless 10-minute resting Electrocardiogram (ECG), consultation with a specialist doctor and advice on heart and other related concerns.
