Mind over matter

A report on the step change needed in emotional and mental health support for children and young people in Wales

The Children, Young People and Education Committee of the National Assembly for Wales has published a report on children and adolescent mental health.

The report is the result of a wide-ranging enquiry into emotional and health. It identifies an urgent need to invest in preventative and early intervention services. It acknowledges improvements in specialist services, but says that these services don’t go far enough. In particular the report highlights the need for more preventative services.

The report recommends that:

  • Schools should become community hubs for emotional resilience and mental well-being, with ring-fenced resources
  • Mental health should be embedded in the new curriculum in Wales
  • Everyone who cares, volunteers or works with children or young people should be trained in mental health awareness

You can download the report from the National Assembly for Wales website. You can also see Children in Wales’ evidence to the Committee’s consultation here.
