Council secures £2.58m European funding for Robertstown scheme
Rhondda Cynon Taf Council has secured significant European funding of £2.58m towards a package of £3.93m to create modern business units in Robertstown – a project which will continue to strengthen ongoing investment in the Aberdare area.
The project will be part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Welsh Government. This funding opportunity follows a Council bid for ERDF funding from a £15.8m programme available for priority schemes in South East Wales.
The project will develop much-needed modern business accommodation in Robertstown near Aberdare, which is one of six projects prioritised for European funding in the South East Wales region.
The area is a key employment site identified in the Local Development Plan, and the project will deliver sustainable economic growth and jobs, helping to build a thriving and prosperous economy. Development work is underway to enable the project to be delivered over the next few years.
Councillor Robert Bevan, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Enterprise, Development and Housing, said: “I welcome this significant funding secured by the Council from the European Regional Development Fund, which will help kick-start this strategic project in the Cynon Valley.
“The Robertstown employment site is an example of a strategic location in great need of development. It is critical that the Council delivers economic growth in such regionally-important areas, where there is significant potential to create jobs and prosperity. Securing external funding for such schemes is also a priority for the Council.
“This provides another example of this Council delivering on its ambitions for the county. Investment in business accommodation of this type has not been undertaken since the days of the Welsh Development Agency and is set to encourage business and economic development in areas of strategic importance, both within the County Borough and the wider region.”
