Velindre Young Ambassador evening

A few weeks ago myself (Manon, Year 9 St John School) and Freya, Year 8 also from St John, were chosen by Velindre to become young ambassadors. Velindre provides over 1.5 million people in South Wales with the care they need, making Velindre the largest cancer hospital in Wales.

My role as a young ambassador includes helping with charity events and raising money for Velindre. So far Velindre has given us a tour of the hospital as well as ideas to help us get started with the charity events. On the tour of the hospital, we were given an induction to being a young ambassador which included getting a message from Sam Warburton wishing us luck. After that, we were taken to the area where the hospital conducts chemotherapy. That is where we saw the chemotherapy machine which will focus on the affected area and will send treatment to that specific area, which, over a period of time, help that affected area.

Later, a nurse came to explain how the charity events work and how to set one up. She also explained what the money goes forward to; books to help explain cancer to children, specialist nurses, even new chemotherapy machines. That was where we concluded our tour.

Spread the love
