Road Safety Week in Rhondda Cynon Taf
Rhondda Cynon Taf are looking forward to Road Safety Week, at the end of November, with a programme of events for road users of all ages.
Tuesday 21 November: Road safety information event at ASDA, Tonypandy. Working with South Wales Fire and Rescue, Go Safe and Treorchy Primary School’s Junior Road Safety Officers to interact with as many people as possible from the community to offer road safety advice. South Wales Fire and Rescue will be on site with a fire engine and GoSafe will have a camera van for anyone to have a sit in and for parents to ask any questions they may have.
Wednesday 22 and Thursday 23 November: Kerbcraft with year 2 pupils from all over Rhondda Cynon Taf. Teaching them the essential skills they need to be safer child pedestrians. Focussing on everything from the ‘Green Cross Code’ basics to crossing at difficult locations such as between parked cars and at junctions.
Thursday 23 November: National Standards Level 1 Cycling at St Margaret’s Catholic Primary School. Teaching year 6 pupils the basic bike handling skills they need in preparation to become proficient cyclists. If the pupils pass level 1, they will move onto level 2 which is on road cycle training.
Friday 24 November: Drive Safer for Longer. Essential driving skills (not a test) for over 65s, held in Church Village. Carried out in partnership with South Wales Police’s road safety team, South Wales Fire and Rescue and an independent garage owner who all give brilliant advice on road safety and money saving matters. A course that is thoroughly enjoyed by those who come along. Get in touch for other up-coming available dates.
Tuesday 28, Wednesday 29, and Thursday 30 November: Mega Drive courses are being delivered in: Llwynypia Campus, Y.G.G Garth Olwg and Y.G Llanhari. Working in partnership with South Wales Police, South Wales Fire and Rescue and local driving instructors to educate pupils aged 15-17 on important road safety issues that they will start to encounter as they become passengers in friends’ cars and become drivers themselves.
