New Service at the Ponty Muni Launched
Loved by all ages, the Muni in Pontypridd acts as a hub for
inter-generational activities and socialising. It's potential to do
even more, for our more mature residents is now being realised, and
through the work of a committee and the support of RCT Council, along
with sponsors – Edwards Holidays, Full Stop Law and Mooneerams
Solicitors, the Muni is now preparing to complete the first step
towards enhancing the service provided for the over 50s.
From Monday, 30th October, visitors to the Muni will be able to enjoy
new furniture in the cafe, an increased activity programme, special
events and, alongside the usual cafe menu, a choice of two meals of
the day (which includes one vegetarian option). For over 50s, the cost
will be £3.50 for the meal of the day, whilst under 50s will pay
£4.50.
New activities include new Balance and Stretch and Chair Exercise
classes, alongside the already popular Tai Chi and Ally’s Mature
Movers classes.
More work is due to take place in the coming weeks to extend the
provision further, with plans already underway for a further dedicated
activity space for the community.
Councillor Heledd Fychan Chair of the Group driving this initiative,
said: “I am very grateful to the Board of the Muni, RCT Council,
Members of the Fifty-plus Forum and, in particular, the Sponsors for
making this possible.
“Since the closure of the Day Centre, residents who are Fifty plus
have not had a dedicated space in Pontypridd to specifically cater for
their needs. Though the Muni remains a fantastic space for all ages,
this initative will now provide ample opportunity for our more mature
residents to get out of the house and socialise, either by attending a
special event, participating in an activity or enjoying a freshly made
meal in a comfortable environment.”

of recognition from Age Cymru earlier this year, we approached the
Muni to see what could be done to provide an over 50s service in
Pontypridd, following the withdrawal of the day centre. Our ideas were

service is now available to residents in Pontypridd”.
